All girls are princesses...

If that’s true, I want a chateau. Any one of the four I saw this past weekend will do the trick. We had a group excursion to the chateaux of the Loire Valley, which was so so amazng. They are so unbelievably beautiful. Why don’t we have chateaux in the states? Why?!? Anyway, Saturday we went to Usse, which is the castle that Sleeping Beauty was based on. They were playing the soundtrack in the tower. I sang. Then we went to Azay-le-Rideau, which was nice, then we went to Tours, where we stayed for the night. It was so nice having everyone together and going out with people that I don’t normally see that much.

The next day we saw Chenonceau, which was my favorite chateau. Some king built it for his mistress, and when he died his wife kicked her out and wanted to make it better, so she built a gallery over the water. Then when she died the next queen who lived in it wanted to make it even better, so she added a second floor to the gallery-bridge. All of this healthy competition made a pretty spectacular castle. Unfortunately we left late and got lost so we only had about an hour to see it. The fourth and final chateau was Amboise, where Leonardo da Vinci died, which is gorgeous. Our tour guide there kept referencing other chateaux and then saying something like “oh, that’s a lovely chateau.” I found it really funny that there are so many chateaux in France that it’s possible to describe them like that. I mean, to me, and I think to most other Americans, they’re all pretty incredible, but to the French, it’s no big deal. Just another nice chateau.

All in all it was a great weekend! Pictures are on Flickr!
